This coin was minted to commemorate an unforgettable year in Nebraska football history. 1997 would mark the 25th anniversary of legendary head coach Tom Osborne's tenure at Nebraska. It would also be his last year of coaching, as Coach Osborne announced his retirement at the end of the regular season. Nebraska went 13-0 and won a national title, defeating a Payton Manning led Tennessee team in the Orange Bowl. Along the way, a determined Missouri team had upset expectations, and except for a play dubbed the "Flea Kicker", would have succeeded. The coin highlights these accomplishments, along with individual awards won by the likes of Grant Wistrom and Scott Frost. This coin is 2" in diameter and is minted out of solid brass. The coin comes packaged in a clear, air tight collector's case.
